Justice or Just Us?

Okay, if there was any doubt before yesterday, that doubt should be all gone by now. The system is broken and if we do not act soon, it will be broken beyond all repair. When FBI Director Comey accused Hilary Clinton of acting irresponsibly but did not recommend an indictment for gross negligence, we all knew that the fix was in. There are many people, including General David Petraeus, who were indicted for far less.  I was a USAF officer who was involved in many highly classified programs and was very aware of the fact, that my intent had nothing to do with a possible conviction for failing to handle classified material appropriately. Consequently, I was very careful with what I did with classified material.

Now we have Hilary Clinton, who is so obviously guilty of these offenses that no one should be happy about it. One can in no way consider themselves objective and   fair if they approve of this state of affairs.  Let there be no doubt, that if this had been you or me, they would have to pump the sunlight for it to get to the part of the prison where we would be located. The reality is that the law is only for the “little people.” You and I can be easily prosecuted and abused in a system where, according to Harvey A. Silverglate, the average person can be targeted for three felonies a day by an abusive federal government system.

For the ruling class, justice means getting away with anything they want. This is especially true for those on the left. Proverbs 28:5 asserts that “the wicked do not understand justice.” As such, we can expect no justice in this life.  In this life, there is just us. As such, we need to vote to keep Hilary Clinton out of the presidency. If you think that things are bad now, just allow her to become president of these United States of America. There will be nothing to restrain her evil. Just her appointments to the U.S. Supreme Court will have a negative impact for years to come. If somehow she were to become president, after all of her very obvious crimes, this country would deserve  its fate.

If there was justice, Hilary Clinton would be indicted and on her way to jail. Instead, there is just us to make sure that she has gone as far as she will ever get.  If this was the only scandal that Hilary Clinton was involved in, we would still have good reasons to be upset, but we could move on. Unfortunately, this woman is long on scandals and short of actual accomplishments. On top of all of this she her political agenda is one that should frighten anyone who loves this country. It is time for the never- Trumpers to get over themselves. This country can survive Donald Trump, despite the  annoyance he might be.  The country that the founders intended will not survive a Clinton presidency. A Clinton presidency would be one without justice and righteousness.

The Grand Illusion

As I watch the news, I find that I cannot stand to hear about our current political situation. With Donald Trump and Hilary Clinton vying for the presidency of the U.S.A. we have more than enough to drive one mad. To make matters worse, the Democratic Party continually moves to the left with a bizarre mix of anti- God, anti- family, anti- American, anti- citizen and anti- economic growth policies that are sure to doom this country if they have their way. Even worse is the Republican party which is moving to the left along with the Democratic Party. Consequently, there really is no opposition party. The whole system is broken and is on the road to self- destruction. Sadly, too many voters think that the parties are acting in their interests, but nothing could be farther from the truth.

The Democratic Party have made a sacrament out of abortion and homosexuality. These attacks on life and the family will result in a smaller population and a lower Gross Domestic Product. Not content with its self- destructive ways, the Democratic Party is pushing to make an open border so that illegal aliens can come and go as they please. Unfortunately, this opens the door for terrorists, as well. Even more amazing is the Democratic push for its green agenda that will only further impoverish the country in the name of climate change. So how are these things going to help Democratic voters?

The Republican party do not help their voter base either. Even with majorities in the House and the Senate, Republican leadership is feckless and pathetic. Mitch McConnell and Paul Ryan appear to be graduates of the French Surrender Monkey School of leadership. Most Republican voters are conservative, but most Republican politicians are not. These Republican politicians may criticize Donald Trump for not being conservative, but neither are they.

Most republican voters want the Republican Party to be the opposition to the Democratic Party. So gridlock is just fine for most Republican voters (the opposite of progress is Congress). Most Republican politicians are severely confused. Somehow they think that Republican voters want immigration reform. They also believe that Republican voters want a weak military and increased entitlements. The Republican establishment is completely out of touch with their voter base.

In spite of everything some Christian voters do to get their favorite politician in office, nothing seems to change. Why is this the case? There are just a few things that we must remember. First, we live in a fallen world. As a result, all human governments in the Bible are viewed as beasts. These beast governments act contrary to the will of God. They are led by fallen angelic powers that keep men blinded to the truth. The constant move to the left that our government is taking is the result of a spiritually darkened political leadership, along with a gullible and spiritually blinded electorate. Too many of our leaders are blinded from the truth and lead the country in the wrong direction. Too many voters act uncritically and elect the wrong kind of politicians so that things rarely change for the good.

Second, the fallen world that we live in not only affects our political leaders, but many others as well. For example, fallenness affects the media, those in education, and anyone in a place of authority. John 10:10 tells us that Satan comes to steal, kill and destroy. This includes our political economic systems, as well as our families and churches. Satan attacks through lies and deception. He affects religious leaders, as well as any one else. Satan inspires false religions, like Islam, which results in a host of evils upon this world.

Third, we need to understand all of the problems of our society in light of spiritual warfare. Just as Satan attempts to decieve, and confuse with lies and deception, we must give people the truth. It is, however, not enough to give people the truth. We must give people the truth in love, not in anger or strife. People do not care how much you know, until they know how much you care. Cultural engagement is God’s work and it must be done His way, and in His power.

The “Grand Illusion” is that we can change the world by using its power and methods. Paul tells us in 2 Corinthians 12: 9, that God’s power is made perfect in weakness. When we show people the love of Christ, tell them the truth and pray for them, then the Lord will change their way of thinking. This does not mean that we should not do our best to put the right kind of people in office. The Irish philosopher and politician, Edmund Burke rightly said “All that is necessary for evil to triumph is that good men do nothing.” Just as Nehemiah had people keep one hand on the trowel and the other on the sword, we must be prepared to work as if we never prayed and pray as if we never worked.

Hope for a Broken System

We live in a time of worldwide economic turmoil, political perplexity and moral confusion. All too often we are amazed at the things that we see in our country and in our world.  Instead, what should truly amaze us is that things are not worse. In spite of the fact that history is full of lessons, the governments of the world act contrary to their own self interests. Harvard University professor George Santayana asserted, “those who refuse to learn from history are doomed to repeat it.” Somehow these governments believe that they can uncouple politics and economics from morality. In other words, “the system is Broken.” In fact, it is a system that is not only broken, but it is without hope.

We live in a universe that is a created ORDER and not a CHAOS. A created ORDER means that there is a right way and a wrong way to do things. More specifically, there is a right way to do ethics, law, politics and economics. Until the mid 1800s these disciplines were understood to be part of a greater whole known as the social order. With the rise of positivism, these became completely separate disciplines. Because men reject this order, all that is left is chaos. Psalms 2 asks the question, “Why do the nations rage?” The answer to this question is that they rebel against the God who is a Creator and who created the oder of this world.

If people act in accordance with the created order, they are far more likely to be successful and prosperous. If, on the other hand, they act contrary to God’s created order, they are more likely to fail and end up in poverty. Last year, when the U.S. Supreme Court made gay marriage legal, they acted contrary to God’s order and purpose. In a similar manner, this week, the U.S. Supreme Court made another decision to support abortion. Both of these choices to violate morality, will affect our laws, politics and economics. Those on the left talk about the Right’s war on women, but in reality, the real problem is the Left’s war on the family. The family was established by God to be the basic building block of society. Interestingly, both Marxists and Progressives want to replace the nuclear family with the state.

Concerning our laws, Thomas Aquinas asserted that any law contrary to the natural law is no law at all. This natural law, or the law according to nature is made available to all men because God gave man the gift of reason. What has happened ever since the natural law was replaced with a legal philosophy known as Legal Realism is that our laws are arbitrary and are moving slowly away from their moral foundations. The obvious result is that our society is sailing in strange waters and will eventually run aground.

Concerning our politics, the homosexual mafia is engaged in a jihad against believers in Jesus Christ. They cannot allow disagreement on this issue. Instead they must destroy anyone who dares hold another view regarding their lifestyle. It is not surprising that the left agree with them, but too many on the right are either indifferent or they side with the gay lobby. This much can also be said of the abortion mafia who are motivated only by greed and their twisted sense of morality. All too often, those on the Right, talk a good game, but they do nothing to changes things.

Concerning our economics, it is only growing populations that achieve economic growth. Neither abortion nor homosexual marriage contribute to population growth. Hence, these policies cannot result in economic growth. Instead they will drag our economy down. If not for abortion, Social Security would be flush with cash, because most of those aborted would be contributing members of the labor system.

Somehow, all who war on the family believe that they are doing a good thing. But their war on the family is really a war on society. Even more, it is a war on the God of the CREATED ORDER and His people. This cannot result in justice and righteousness. Our only hope in this life or the next is found in Jesus Christ.

The Problem with Worldview

I have have been teaching Christian ethics, philosophy, politics and economics for years. One thing that I have noticed as I have talked with both professors and students is the confusion that they display with their worldviews. One philosophy professor I have known (who shall go un- named) thought that worldview should only include things like ethics, apologetics  and perhaps theology. One book about worldviews reduces them to nothing more than art or style. I have found that there are as many ideas about worldviews as there are people.

After reading Larry Seidentop’s excellent book, Inventing the Individual, I came away with with not only an understanding of the pre-modern worldview, but also with an understanding of why there is such confusion over worldviews today. Seidentop explains that in the pre-modern world, that there was a complete integration between ethics, art, economics, politics, law, science and theology.  Theology was the queen of the sciences or disciplines. All of the pieces fit together in a systematic way that was consistent and made sense.

It was the Protestant Reformation which separated politics and theology. The Hundred years War ended with the Treaty of Westphalia and eventually resulted in the modern nation- state. Eventually Galileo and Descartes caused the separation of faith and science.  In other words, modernity resulted in the collapse of  the integrated worldview of the pre- moderns. Somehow, moderns got the idea that this is the way that things should be. Or, as Frederic Copleston explains, “it was not so much that the the modern philosophers thought that the pre- modern philosophers were wrong, but that they thought that their ideas were better.”

The pre- moderns believed that every aspect of our lives and thought should be surrendered to the view that Christ is Lord of all. This includes all disciplines, and everything that affects the way that we think, live, and act. When I talk to some in the ministry today, it is clear that they have not submitted their view of politics with their view of theology. Their theology might be conservative, but somehow their politics are not submitted to the King of Glory. Either Jesus Christ is Lord of all, or He is not Lord at all.

Does your view of abortion line up with your views about Jesus Christ? Does your view of socialism line up with a biblical view of property rights? Do you think that homosexual marriage is consistent with a biblical view of marriage? Do you have a completely integrated worldview that contains your views on ethics, economics, art, law, politics, science and theology?  Because people will live, act and think in a way contrary to God’s will, judgement is coming upon this nation and the world. It is time for all of us to repent and to get right with the Lord before it is too late. The wrong worldview will not result in justice and righteousness.
